1  Technical Forums / Maintenance Issues / Question - British Car Mechanic on: July 05, 2015, 09:41:50 AM
Hi all,

This isn't mini related but British car related.  I ran into a nice woman who has been given a 1962 Sunbeam Alpine by her father.  It has been sitting for the better part of 20 years or so.  She wants to restore it, but doesn't know where to go for a decent mechanic.  It a great looking car on the outside, it just needs to run.  I told her I would reach out and see if anyone knows a place.  The only two I know of here in DFW are Kips, which are too expensive in my opinion or Leyland, which I had a bad experience with so I couldn't recommend them.  Any help you can give is appreciated.  I would love to see that car on the road.

I plan to come out to see everyone.  Unfortunately Nigel is still under the knife. Hopefully he will get his heart back soon.

Nigel is still in Austin for the engine rebuild.  I may drop in for a bit though.

I'll be bringing Nigel down, but unfortunately not for the show.  Finally getting him down to my brother's for the engine rebuild.  My brother is taking his Europa and might let me take the Jag.

We'll miss you Angel and Maddie!

I'm going to try to make it out there, but without Nigel.  He needs an engine rebuild.  Hope to see you guys soon!

I'm a maybe.  I have to tow Nigel down to Austin, and my brother is going to rebuild the engine.  Not sure if he'll be ready by then or not, but at least I'd be almost at the destination.  I've always wanted to do one of these drives, so I'll do my best.

I'm still here.  Hoping to have Nigel running sometime after Thanksgiving.  Would love to get together with US.

I can tell you that Iain at Kip Motors is very knowledgeable about minis.  I wouldn't go there for anything major though, they charge quite a bit.  He's good for minor jobs though.

I'll definitely try to be there to say farewell to Angel and Maddie!

Hi Tiffany - Welcome!

I got my mini for less than 10 grand right here in Lewisville, but it did take me two years to find, so my best advice is be patient.  Especially if you're wanting right hand drive which I did.  Much harder to find.  Besf of luck, and I'll keep my eyes out as well.

I'm going to try and come out as a spectator, but Nigel is having compression issues.  Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Looks like it was a blast!  I was hoping we would be a last minute arrival, but Nigel is acting up, and at this point we may not make White Rock.  Hope to see you all soon!

As long as Nigel is running, I'm in.  He's been sputtering a bit lately, and I'm not sure what the problem is.  Hopefully, my brother will move here soon and be my personal mechanic.

I'd love to drive this car on some roads meant for a mini.  Not too many of those here in DFW.

Actually there were six.  Are Andy and I and Nigel that forgettable?  I know Andy isn't.  Smiley

It was a lot of fun.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at British Emporium next week.
