Events 2000
Events From 2000

There were three events in 2000 that MOT held/attended that received write ups.  Below are those write ups and their associated pictures.  These are some examples of what we like to do.  More in the other years.

DFW "mini" MINI meet

The place was Peter Fawcett's house in Dallas.  The date was September 17, 2000.  The occasion was a welcoming party for the President of the Finnish MINI Club, who was visiting the United States.  Here's Peter's account:

No less than ten Mini fans gathered at our house to welcome Timo Salminen and his wife who were on holiday in Dallas.  Those attending were Franklin Joseph, Jim Gamboni, Grover Maurer, Angel Ruiz and Madeline, Skip Laughlin and Elaine, (we also had two neighborhood couples plus our son, David, and his wife Christi.)

Timo said he enjoyed meeting the Mini owners and had several stories to tell about the Mini Club in Finland and his Minis.  He had a bad experience when they rented a new Oldsmobile in Plano for a trip and the steering rack broke!

We had four Minis parked in our driveway (left to right: Grover's, Mine, Angel`s, and Skip`s).  We discussed and inspected the cars, ate sandwiches and drank beer.

Thank you all for coming.

MOT at TWS

The date was Sunday, March 12, 2000.
The place was Texas World Speedway in College Station.
The setting was a Corinthian Vintage Auto Racing event.
Several MOT members decided it would be the perfect time and place to get together for a meet.

Six little MINIs - all in a row.  From left to right:  Harold Gauthier (CVAR)  Alexandria, Louisiana;  Arturo Lee (MOT) Houston;  David Youngs (MOT) Brenham; Glen & Christy Harrod (MOT) Houston; Jose Iturbe (CVAR) San Antonio; and Andrew Fawcett (MOT) College Station.
Also attending, though not with their cars, were:  Graham Davies, Austin; Steve Gluskoter, Austin; and Sam Gamenthaler, Houston.  Did I leave anybody out?

TXABCD 2000

Mini Owners of Texas was well represented at the Austin/Round Rock All British Car show Sunday, October 1, 2000.

Our attendees were Derek Salvage, Grover Maurer, Skip Laughlin, Bruce Kennedy, Michael Playle, and John Wooley from Round Rock.

Did we show well? Every MOT member brought home an award! Grover was first in the Competition class, Bruce was 1st in Minis, Derek was 2nd, and Skip and Michael tied for 3rd. Phew! I don't know how we did that.

108 cars in attendance. Lots of MBGs and Triumphs. A 47 Rolls pulled in late and there was a 1924 BSA motorcycle.

The grounds were great. Lots of shade available and lots of room to grow for next year. Covered pavilion, rest rooms, inexpensive lunch vendor, and nice parking area for two vehicles.

All British Car Show, Roundrock, TX. 10/1/00. MOT wins big!
